The Detroit Red Wings came to town last night 1 point ahead of the Preds for the best record in the West. We left our house an hour early for the 20 minute drive. Traffic was a disaster, parking even worse and I sat down just in time for the face off. At that point I proceeded to watch 62 and some odd minutes of one of the best hockey game I’ve ever seen.
I grew up in Detroit and my family had season tickets for years. I do like the Wings and absolutely pull for them when they’re not playing the Preds. But when they are. . . I really want to beat them. . .bad. You can’t believe the cheap shots they threw last night. And Chris Chelios is an old man that needs to go home. He chips and hacks and then runs from fights. I mean RUNS from them. Several of the Preds tried to square off with him and he’d just run. One time Tootoo came after him and you could literally see the fear on Chelios’ face. Pretty amusing.
Anyway, great game hard hitting and the Preds just kept coming. Final score. . 4-3 Preds. But here’s the deal. . . Detroit scored 2 of their 3 goals (in fact, it might have been all 3) on the powerplay. The Preds first goal was soft but after that, Legwand’s goal in the 2nd was sheer will. Kariya’s second goal of the night with about a minute to go to tie it up was a great deflection and then Kariya created the 3rd goal (Forsbergs first as a Pred) in overtime.
The GEC was amazing last night. So loud. We play Detroit 2 more times this season. If you didn’t get to the game last night. Trust me. . .do whatever it takes to get to the next Detroit game. It’s an experience you don’t need to miss.

Overheard Saturday night at Tootsies:
Wings: “Well its Working”
Preds: “Whats Working?”
Wings: “We’re getting you overconfident”
Chelly scared!?! PLEASE! The man is from Chicago, and he’s going to run from a guy named TooToo? He probably just refused to take advantage of him.
Hope you played well yesterday.
Ok. . .no comeback. That’s pretty funny.
Saturday night found me at Outback Steakhouse on West End sitting at the bar with my future brother-in-law, who just happens to be from Detriot. While our future bride’s-to-be were doing the wedding shower thing, we were putting ‘em back watching the Preds skate to victory. (he’s converted as well)
This is a big deal because I watch one hockey game a year. Glad I chose this one. Go Preds!
Sidenote: All hockey should be 4 on 4.
Pred’s beat the Wings because of a inept ref…didn’t know the rule on stoppage of play..idiot !!!
Hey Wil- While I agree on the fact that goal should have been allowed the Wings went on to score in that same power play. So…no harm no foul really.
I will agree with you on the inept ref thing though…did you see ALL those cheap shots that Chelios got away with. Seriously…he nearly took off Tootoo’s head and got nothing. NOTHING! I’m sure you were as appalled at those missed calls as well. Weren’t you?
Hell no !! That little, no talent TooToo, couldn’t have played for the original Six NHL teams….Chelios would have been a star back then..as he is now. Chelios, as all veteran players, knows how to iritate verbally and draw penalties..TooToo is an idiot !!
Easy there Mr. Hamp! While I would agree that Toots would probably not have earned a spot on an original six team the fact remains that Chelios took several cheap shots that were ignored by the refs. If Tootoo had done these things to Chelios the Freep would still be writing articles on the ‘preferential treatment for plays of Inuit decent!’
In typical Red Wing fan style you have once again distorted the argument. The refs are idiots…Tootoo is an idiot…I can’t believe I was ever one of you!
