I’m in love. . .

I’m a very picky eater. . . A VERY PICKY EATER. For me, it is often a mental thing. I just know that I won’t like certain things so I don’t touch them. A few examples. . .mustard, potato salad, most salad dressing, avacado, guacamole, sour cream and cheddar cheese, heck, I’ll even throw in cream cheese. I’ve never even tried most of these things. If I have had them, I can assure you it was by accident.  One more item to this list that I’ve never had nor had a desire to have would be mayonaise. I’ve never put it on a sandwich, never purposefully tasted it. . . until a few weeks ago.

Here’s the deal. . .we leave church a couple weeks ago and I’m starving. We (my wife, daughters and best friends the Brelands) go to a restaurant near our church called Stoveworks.  Two things. . .I’m very hungry and I’m on a  diet. Here’s the quirky statement. . .I’ve always admired people who ate chicken salad. Seriously. . .you’re at a nice restaurant, maybe outside on the patio and someone orders chicken salad sandwich on wheat. It just seems healthy and like a somewhat socially classy choice to me.  So I’m hungry and on a diet and I decide that I am going to join the ranks of the socially classy and order the pecan chicken salad sandwich. It was absolutely amazing. Well Bill, it has mayonaise in it. . .See, I know this, but I didn’t see it get made and I didn’t put it in there. I think that matters.

I had Chicken Salad for lunch the following day at the Franklin Mercantile, I had it for lunch on Wednesday (Barbara’s), Thursday (Legends) Friday, (Lenny’s) and Saturday (Old Natchez).

I’m in love with this sandwich. I feel like a more sophisticated person when I’m eating this sandwich. I’ve had it with grapes, with celery, pecans, and plain. I have to tell you that right now, Lenny’s is the best in town as far as I’m concerned. I’m not a fan of the grapes. They just don’t fit for me. They’re like an intrusion.

There you go. . .It’s Chicken Salad for me. . . Anybody got a great recipe or recommended place around Nashville to try?

Alpine Bagel has a great Chicken Salad sandwich. I get it on an “everything bagel” with their horseradish mustard.

Thanks. I’ll be there tomorrow! Have to pass on the mustard though. Just can’t go there.

I had Lenny’s chicken salad today. On wheat with onions, lettuce, tomato and black pepper.

    I was good.

    Really good.

Black Pepper? I need to try that. Minus the tomato. Still haven’t had one of those yet. They’re on the “afraid to try” list.

Figurehead! Great call on the Alpine Chicken Salad Sandwich. I have to tell you that I was nervous. I’d never had an onion bagel and the chicken salad was pink. That scared me, however, fearless Amy Mo took the first bite and said it was good. She was right. thx.

I’ll get you some chicken salad if you’re interested. (no I don’t make it personally) It’s awesome and has cranberries in it….not overwhelming, just enough to put a little boost in to the flavor.

    Let me know…I’ll get it.
