To me, getting a massage is one of the most relaxing things a person can do for themselves. I sometimes wonder why I get them, b/c I’m telling you without fail, I fall asleep. I mean out. I got an hour long massage on Saturday and I seriously remember about 5 minutes of it. When she told me it was done I had to question if she was sure she went an hour. It’s a little embarrasing b/c anywhere from 5-10 times per massage, I wake myself up snoring. Like one big loud snore, feel a little embarrassed and then back out again.
Anyway, what I was going to say about the massage though is that for something so relaxing, it always without fail starts off tension filled. It goes like this. I’m standing in the room. The lady tells me to get ready and lay face down and she will come in after I’m ready then she leaves. Here is where the tension starts. She leaves and I, for some reason, think I need to get my clothes off and get under that sheet in lightning time or she might walk in on me before I’m “ready”. If I’m wearing lace up boots or something, we’ve got a nightmare on our hands. I have to get them unlaced get them off, get everything else off and then get under the covers before she comes back in. I’m telling you, it’s exhausting. Maybe that’s why I fall asleep everytime. I’m mentally exhausted from getting ready for the massage.
Hmmm. . .I hadn’t thought of that.
Anyway, in the last hour I’ve watched the Preds lose and I watched the last 45 minutes of “United 93″. Wow, I’m feeling real good. Time for bed.

This made me laugh out loud. None of that LOL crap for me. This made me want to type out the whole freaking thing. Hysterical.
Great post. I was LOLing too.
I don’t think I did the pre-massage strip down right the first time I went.
You see, I started undressing while the lady was still in the room. Like I was so fast I was down to my boxers before she even had a chance to leave. It didn’t bother me, but I think she felt awkward. And for someone who rubs on people all day long, it takes a lot for them to feel awkward.
Wow…I guess that makes three of us! Funny stuff indeed!
I think you might be onto something with why you fall asleep.
My favorite massage story is when the lady in DC asked you if she had ‘permission to heal you’ in a very thick oriental accent.
I often ask my clients if they want me to wake them up if they fall asleep. Personally I wonder why anyone wants to pay $80/hour just to take a nap? (I take naps for free all the time at home… heh.)
A large part of it, I think, is that it’s an overwhelmingly comforting experience to be in a place where you feel safe, pampered, and relaxed enough to fall asleep. Your body still receives the benefits of the massage therapy (of which there are many) and you have time for yourself.
It’s interesting that most of my guys fall asleep yet very few women do. I’ve often wondered if guys just relax better in general.
I have to say that I’ve never walked in on a client before they were ready. I always knock and ask before coming in. The therapist I go to is very clever–she has a bell that the client rings when they are on the table.
